The Early Tudors

The Tudor dynasty began in 1485 with the accession of Henry VII, who defeated Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth Field. Henry VII was a shrewd and cautious ruler, and he established a strong and stable government. He also married Elizabeth of York, the daughter of Edward IV, which united the rival houses of Lancaster and York.

Henry VII's son, Henry VIII, was a more flamboyant and charismatic ruler. He was a great sportsman and musician, and he loved to show off his wealth and power. Henry VIII is best known for his six wives, two of whom he had executed. He also broke with the Catholic Church and established the Church of England.

The Later Tudors

Henry VIII's children, Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I, all ruled during the Tudor period. Edward VI was a sickly boy who died at the age of 15. Mary I was a devout Catholic who tried to restore the Catholic Church in England. She is known as "Bloody Mary" because of her persecution of Protestants.

Elizabeth I was one of the most successful monarchs in English history. She was a brilliant politician and diplomat, and she presided over a period of great prosperity and cultural achievement. Elizabeth I is known as the "Virgin Queen" because she never married.

The Tudor Legacy

The Tudor period was a time of great change and upheaval in England. The Tudors established a strong and centralized monarchy, and they broke with the Catholic Church. They also presided over a period of great economic and cultural growth. The Tudor legacy is still felt today, and their story continues to fascinate people around the world.

This book is a lively and engaging to the Tudor period. It is a must-read for anyone interested in this fascinating period of English history.
