Malala's Activism

Despite the Taliban's ban, Malala continued to speak out in favor of education for girls. In 2011, she wrote a blog for the BBC Urdu service, under the pseudonym Gul Makai. In her blog, Malala chronicled her life under Taliban rule and spoke out against the Taliban's ban on girls' education.

Malala's blog attracted international attention, and she soon became a prominent voice for girls' education. In 2012, she was awarded the National Youth Peace Prize by the Pakistani government.

Malala's Shooting

On October 9, 2012, Malala was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman while returning home from school. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, saying that they had targeted Malala because she was promoting "Western culture" and "secularism."

Malala was critically injured in the attack, but she survived. She was flown to the United Kingdom for medical treatment, and she underwent several surgeries. Malala's recovery was long and difficult, but she eventually made a full recovery.
