Lee attended the College of William and Mary, where he studied law. He graduated in 1829 and began practicing law in Richmond. However, Lee soon decided that he wanted to pursue a military career.

In 1831, Lee joined the United States Army. He served in the Mexican-American War, where he distinguished himself as a brilliant military strategist. After the war, Lee returned to the United States and served in various posts.

In 1861, the American Civil War broke out. Lee resigned from the United States Army and joined the Confederate Army. He was appointed commander of the Army of Northern Virginia, and he led the Confederacy to victory in several major battles.

However, Lee was unable to defeat the Union Army, and the Confederacy was eventually defeated in 1865. Lee surrendered to Union General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House.

Robert Lee was a devout Christian who believed that he was fighting for a just cause. He was also a loving husband and father. Lee married Mary Custis in 1831, and they had seven children together.

Lee was a complex and contradictory figure. He was a brilliant military strategist who fought for a cause that he believed in. However, he was also a slave owner who defended the institution of slavery.

Robert Lee's legacy is still debated today. Some people see him as a traitor who fought against the United States. Others see him as a brilliant military strategist who defended the South.

Regardless of how one views Robert Lee, there is no doubt that he was a significant figure in American history. His military campaigns and his personal life continue to fascinate and inspire people today.

Robert Lee Biography is the most comprehensive and up-to-date account of the life and career of the Confederate general. Drawing on new research and interviews, this biography provides a fresh perspective on Lee's military career, his personal life, and his legacy.
