About the Author
**Dee Brown** (1908-2002) was an American author and historian. He is best known for his books on the American West, including **Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee**, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Nonfiction in 1971. Brown was a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, and served as a professor of history at several universities. He was also a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Cowboy Hall of Fame.
