Molly Ivins was a force of nature. A brilliant writer, a fearless truth-teller, and a passionate advocate for the underdog, she spent her life stirring up trouble and fighting for what she believed in.

Ivins was born in Houston, Texas, in 1944. Her father was a newspaperman, and her mother was a public relations executive. Ivins grew up in a politically active household, and she developed a strong sense of social justice at a young age. She attended Smith College in Massachusetts, where she earned a degree in English literature. After college, she worked as a reporter for several newspapers in Texas, including the Houston Chronicle and the Dallas Times Herald.

In 1976, Ivins joined the editorial board of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. She quickly became one of the most respected and influential columnists in the country. Ivins's columns were known for their wit, their incisive analysis, and their unwavering commitment to truth and justice. She was a fearless critic of both the left and the right, and she never shied away from speaking her mind.

Ivins's columns were often controversial, but they were always thought-provoking. She wrote about a wide range of topics, including politics, religion, and social issues. She was a strong advocate for women's rights, civil rights, and environmental protection. She also had a keen eye for hypocrisy and injustice, and she never hesitated to call out those in power.

Ivins's work earned her a Pulitzer Prize in 1986. She also received numerous other awards, including the National Press Club's Fourth Estate Award and the American Society of Newspaper Editors' Distinguished Writing Award.

Ivins died of breast cancer in 2007. She was 62 years old. Her death was a great loss to journalism and to the world. She was a one-of-a-kind voice, and her writing continues to inspire and challenge us today.
