Margaret Kargbo was just a child when the civil war in Sierra Leone erupted. She was forced to flee her home and seek refuge in an orphanage. There, she witnessed firsthand the horrors of war. Children were killed, maimed, and orphaned. Margaret herself was a victim of sexual violence.

Despite the trauma she experienced, Margaret refused to give up on her dreams. She escaped from the orphanage and made her way to the United States. There, she earned a college degree and started a successful business. But Margaret never forgot the children she left behind in Sierra Leone.
