Fleming's Early Career

Fleming's Work as a Book Designer
In the 1920s, Fleming began to focus on book design. He designed books for a wide range of publishers, including Penguin Books and Faber & Faber. Fleming's book designs were known for their clarity and simplicity. He used a limited number of fonts and colors, and he paid careful attention to the layout of the text.
One of Fleming's most famous book designs is for the Penguin edition of T.S. Eliot's The Waste Land. Fleming's design for the book is simple and elegant, and it perfectly complements Eliot's poem. Fleming's Later Career
In the 1930s, Fleming began to teach graphic design at the Royal College of Art in London. He also continued to design books and posters. In 1946, he was appointed the first President of the Society of Typographic Designers. Fleming died in London in 1956.
